The method behind the work
Built on five pillars. Lived in every figure.
CAPID is not a slogan. It is the framework behind every piece of work that leaves this practice. It is the standard I hold the work to, and the standard you can hold me to.
The method behind the work
CAPID is not a slogan. It is the framework behind every piece of work that leaves this practice. It is the standard I hold the work to, and the standard you can hold me to.
Why a framework at all
Most firms publish values. Very few publish what those values oblige them to do. Each pillar below carries a stated commitment, in plain terms, so that you can measure the work against it rather than take it on trust.
The honest conversation
The honest conversation, not just the comfortable one. It is easy to tell a client what they want to hear, and it is briefly popular. It is also how businesses end up making decisions on a picture that was never true. If the figures say something you were not hoping to hear, you will hear it from me early, while there is still time to act on it. The alternative is a business making decisions on a picture that was never true. That is not kindness. That is risk.
I will tell you what the numbers actually say, even when it costs me the easier conversation.
Owning the work and the dates
Owning the work and the deadlines. Your filing dates sit on my side of the table, tracked and diarised, not left with you to remember and chase. Where something is at risk, whether that is a missing record, a delay at HMRC or a decision still outstanding, you learn it from me first, with enough notice to do something about it.
I do not need chasing. That is the whole point of hiring me.
The business behind the figures
Looking beyond the figures to the goals and the life behind them. A set of accounts is a record of decisions already made. The useful work happens before that, in understanding what the business is for, what you are building toward, and what the numbers need to do in order to get you there.
I will ask what the business is for before I advise on what the numbers should do.
Right, when nobody is watching
Doing it right, when no one is looking. The standard has to be internal rather than imposed, because the shortcut nobody would notice is still a shortcut.
Nothing is filed until it is correct, and no figure is submitted that I could not stand behind and explain.
Consistency, quietly
Consistent, methodical and exacting. The same checks, the same standard, every month, whether the client is large or small and whether the quarter is busy or quiet. Nobody applauds the quiet quarters. They are the ones that prove the standard.
The same process every time, so that nothing depends on my memory or your reminder.
In practice
Frameworks are worth nothing if they stay on a website. Here is where each pillar actually shows up in the working relationship: in the discovery call, where Courage means telling you if I am not the right fit; in the filing calendar, where Accountability means the dates are mine to track; in the quarterly review, where Perspective means we talk about the business and not only the balance sheet.
Integrity shows up in the work you never see: the second check, the query raised rather than assumed, the figure I would not sign off. Discipline shows up in the fact that none of the above depends on how busy the month has been.
Five pillars. One standard. Applied to your numbers whether you are watching or not.
Five things you can genuinely check me on. Tap one as a reminder to ask it.
Nothing here is saved — it just resets next visit. It's a prompt for the conversation, not a form.
